A4 Centre console progress

Modified the centre console this weekend as it seems I’m stuck with it for a while until the retrimmer can fit me in.

I Decided that deleting the storage recess would save the retrimmer some work (and in turn save me some money), and also look nicer once it was trimmed; more minimal. Deleted the lines that run along either side too as I didn’t want to chance them showing through the Alcantara.

So my trusty spare console came in handy yet again as I could practice before destroying my good one, and also cannibalise it to make the blank plate.

First a little test on the spare.

That was easy. So moved onto spot welding the blank plate onto my good console.

Then all around the whole piece.

After sanding it down with some 240 wet/dry.

Spread over some plastic filler.

And smooth it all down with 400 then 600 wet/dry.

When it came to reinstalling the 12v socket recess I realised the cradle I’d cut out had tabs that held the 12v recess in place. I had to chop this off the cradle and weld it back onto the inside of the console. I could have easily avoided this by not cutting out all the the cradle in the first place. Something about hindsight or something?

Anyway, pleased with how this turned out, once it’s trimmed it should look great.
